Abstract:

The purpose of monthly kelp CHN sampling is to track the carbon, hydrogen, and nitrogen concentrations in Macrocystis pyrifera tissue at SBC LTER sites over time. A total of fifteen M. pyrifera blades are collected at each of three reef sites once a month. Blades are selected approxiamtely two meters from the growing end of several different plants. Core samples of the blades are processed and run through an Organic elemental analyzer, Combustion method
