SBC Investigator, Mark Brzezinski, becomes Director of the Marine Science Institute
SBC Investigator Mark Brzezinski became the director of the Marine Science Institute at UC Santa Barbara, on November 1, 2010. Mark has served as the interim director of the Marine Science Institute (MSI) since January 2010. Between 2001 and 2009, Mark was the deputy director and frequently the acting director of MSI. Mark has been on the UCSB faculty in the Department of Ecology, Evolution and Marine Biology since 1989, and was the chair of the Interdepartmental Graduate Program in Marine Science from 2004 to 2009. Mark's internationally recognized research in biological oceanography focuses on phytoplankton ecology with an major focus on diatoms and evaluating the role the role of silicon as a limiting resource for diatom growth.
